Item upgrade, commonly called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in an increase in the linearity of a given stat.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to boost the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished by many different methods such as the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Many items can also be reforged to increase their stats.

Upgradeable items are available in the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The exceptions are the noninscribable wands, shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which are not upgradeable with any mods in any way.

Glyphs

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This range is the maximum value that a glyph can improve a stat by and not the amount it will actually increase the stat by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier and the quality of the item you are admiring.

The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. If, however, you have a rune or glyph that has not yet been applied to your equipment, you can transfer it to a different piece equipment by utilizing the upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

If you are looking to remove a glyph from a piece of you must salvage it using an Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Reroll tokens permit players to alter the affixes they use on their equipment and weapons, and can be found through a variety of methods like mistery boxes, as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or by killing bosses. Every reroll grants the player an unspecified affix, which is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for upgrade options, but they can be upgraded. When you press the "upgrade button" you can recycle the rerolled items.
